Determining a background for a headshot photographer

When you are working as a Las Vegas headshot photographer, you should know that one of the most important elements of the headshot is the background. What type of background should you use? What colors are best? To help you determine what type of background to use during your next Las Vegas headshot photographer session, consider the following short guide to get you started.

When to Use White

White is the most professional color to use as a Las Vegas headshot photographer, and it is considered the standard for business headshots as well as identification headshots for employee ID tags and cards. White is also one of the easiest colors to work with since it provides contrast against almost any color and shade. If you are going to use white, make sure you let your clients know so that they can dress accordingly.

When to Use Black

Black is a color to use for creative headshots or any Las Vegas headshot photographer work where more creativity and expression are allowed. For instance, some types of acting headshots may lend themselves better to black due to the creative nature of the industry which encourages emotive headshots for casting purposes.

When to Use Other Colors

You can use colors other than black or white, although black and white are the most common you’ll find when working as a Las Vegas headshot photographer. If you do decide to use other colors, make sure that you have approval from the client and that the colors make sense in terms of context–don’t, for instance, use a bright pink headshot background for a corporate client coming in to take employee IDs.

When to Use Green Screen

If you plan to edit in the background during the post-production editing process, then you may want to consider using a green screen. A green screen headshot background will afford you a greater opportunity to be creative than simply a white, black, or another color background.
