A happy medium in photography is simply referred to as that picture that brings happiness to the face of the client and anyone who sees it. This means that the picture is neat, perfect, and acceptable.

A photographer needs to take a lot of shots knowing that at least one of those would be great. Nothing is perfect and no one can take the perfect picture but then, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.
