PERSONABILITY WITH PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHER CHRISTIAN PURDIE

Most people get a little squeamish when they have to sit in front of a camera for a shoot. This can get awkward if the photographer isn’t a friend or a family member. Professional portrait photographers understand that not everyone is comfortable during a photo session, and so they have figured out various means of getting the subject as comfortable as possible.

Most Las Vegas portrait photographers are personable, they understand that being personable is part of what makes them stand out amongst others and that people seem to like them and are more comfortable working with them. Most professional photographers in Las Vegas are outgoing, pleasing, patient, bubbly, and understanding and this makes it very comforting and less awkward to work with.

The Las Vegas portrait photographer understands that in a photo session the subject desire and story are essential. The first step is balancing the technical and creative processes along with the subject which can sometimes be difficult but essential for professional photographers. They find a way to communicate with their subject not only visually but also verbally. This is a technique that takes time and experience to develop. They understand that it is essential to learn about the craft technically and creatively so as not to be overwhelmed with the subject during a photo session.

For instance, during taking family portraits in Bellagio Hotel on Las Vegas Boulevard, the photographer noticed they were three young boys and one baby. He understood that babies do not understand what it means to sit still, so the photographer jangled a pair of keys over his camera, which resulted in the perfect shot for him.

Another scenario happened in Las Vegas this time with a business executive, who wanted a portrait for his business lobby.  The photographer was so busy focusing on the technical and creative aspect of the shoot that she literally forgot to factor the executive whose portrait she was shooting. Her words “I spoke little and he just sat there zoned out, looking bored. His portrait was strong as far as lighting and pose but the expression was weak”. This was supposed to be a simple session with lighting, posing, composition, etc. But the subject had lost interest and you could visibly see it in his eyes and countenance.

A Las Vegas portrait photographer understands that there is a difference between being overconfident and just being confident. You should be sure of your abilities and talent to produce a beautiful and creative portrait, but do not lose sight of your subject. It is as much their story, time, desire, and photo session as it is yours.

Portrait photography goes beyond having a camera and knowing how to use it technically and creatively.  It is about sharing a memorable experience with the subject. You must genuinely like people and take an interest in what I interest and excites them. You should be able to listen to your subject and talk to them, exchange ideas with them and who knows you may even get the best creative ideas from them.
