Creative Corporate Event Photographer

Photography is for creative minds. But as a photographer covering events such as luncheons, meetings, awards ceremonies, and formals down the years, I have come to the conclusion that creativity alone won’t get you out of a tight situation. Usually, most corporate event planners give little consideration for the photographer’s preferences when choosing venues or setting up lighting systems. Most of the time, the event photographer is put in a difficult situation. And making the best out of a tough situation requires more than just creativity – but experienced also. Hence, clients looking for a photographer to handle corporate events must understand that it’s an area that needs taking a lot of tough shots – and making those tough shots is no duty for a rookie.

Corporate Event Photographer: My Approach.

Clients may have specific requirements or the venue coordinators may have certain restrictions, such as the use of camera flash. And several other factors that warrant a different approach, which may be too numerous to mention. Besides, I never go to events expecting the look, feel, or setting to be anywhere similar to one I have done in the past – they are always different all the time.

Which is a good thing from a personal point of view – At least, I’m not bored!  But in any case, every client (both past and potential) wants the same thing: a perfect job. And what makes the perfect job for the regular client? Capturing the key moments – which includes those the clients have witnessed themselves and those they have missed.

Narrating Events, With Photos!

The event has a story to tell. Capturing all the key moments tells the story, albeit with photos. As simple as it may seem, that’s just the job I’m required to do as a photographer covering a corporate event – how I manage to accomplish that is left to me.

Working along Confines: Improvising!

Photographing public events comes with its challenges, with the biggest of them all being lighting and having no control over your environment. There is no need to worry about that which you can’t control. Besides, no event goes 100% according to plan. Dirty dishes, white table coverings or background movement would always prove to get in the way of a perfect shot. Even the organizers are oblivious to the fact that last-minute changes have huge implications for a photographer.

Handling all this is no problem for me. Probably because I have been into it long enough to improvise my way through it. But the issue of lighting can be frustrating for some photographers.

But Wi-Fi lighting technology is the way to go. When I’m faced with dim or varying light conditions. But sometimes, mostly when capturing events, I prefer to keep things natural and avoid flash when taking candid shots. This way, nobody’s attention is not diverted away from the main event. And I get the nice, soft and surface shots which actually gets the job done!
