What to Expect on an Event Shoot with an Event Photographer

When you are working as an event photographer and you want to know what to expect on an event shoot, there is one thing you must expect: the unexpected! Working as an event photographer is particularly exciting because, no matter how prepared you feel you are, there is always something exciting just around the corner at an event.

These excitements that show up when you consider what to expect on an event shoot can be fun! Such as surprise announcements you managed to capture at just the right time or special moments you were able to photograph for future preservation. But excitements that show up when you consider what to expect on an event shoot can also be frustrating from a photographer’s perspective. For instance, when it comes to what to expect on an event shoot, you may be frustrated to find that the ambient lighting in the room has a slightly orange hue but the client told you that the hue was blue. Or you might find that there are some obstructions in the room which make getting certain shots difficult, or that the sun has decided to cloud over on an outdoor event. But as a professional event photographer, you must learn to take all of this in stride. After all, the client is depending on you to provide great service and impeccable photos of their special event.

Every event photographer knows that event photography is not all random surprises, however. When it comes to what to expect on an event shoot, you should expect to arrive early in order to be briefed by the client on their final preferences for the day. They should ideally have a “shot list” for you, complete with (when applicable) general times and locations for certain shots. For instance, if you are photographing a wedding, then you should expect to be told when the reception starts when certain dances begin, and so on, so you can be there with your camera.
