Las Vegas Event Photographer | Be respectful but get the job done

Once you’ve worked enough jobs as a Las Vegas event photographer, you begin to notice a pattern: there are just some people who do not want to make time for photographers at an event! Unfortunately, when it is your job to take photos of people at the event, this can create a conundrum. What do you do when people won’t agree to your requests? Read on to find out some great tips that will help you stay respectful while getting your job done in the process.

What to do when guests won’t stop for a photograph

First, you need to consider why they aren’t stopping for a photo. Is there a genuinely good reason—such as they are on their way to the bathroom, they need to call someone in case of an emergency, or their presence was requested somewhere in the event? In this case, let it go, as trying to force them to take a photo when they have a genuine need to be somewhere else will only result in conflict. In other cases, however, you’ll need to politely press the issue.

Learn how to be persistent without seeming pushy

The key to getting people who don’t want to make time for you as a photographer to agree to have their photos taken is polite persistence. You don’t want to seem rude or pushy as this will turn people off and could impact how your client views your performance. But you don’t want to be a doormat who finds themselves lacking photos at the end of the night, either!

Polite persistence will take some practice, but once you learn how do disarm someone with a charming smile or quick word, you’ll find it gets easier.

Above all, respect—but get the job done

Remember, you are there to do a job, and that job sometimes means encouraging people to take photos in a polite, professional way that gets results and keeps your client satisfied.
