Planning is essential

I know you’re excited and can’t wait to start photographing your clients. But hey not so fast! Telling incredible stories with your clients’ portrait doesn’t just happen outside the blue. Great photographers have discovered that telling stories with portraits involves planning. Yes, and that’s because, what your mind does not know, your eyes cannot see. To this end, it will make a lot of sense to know your clients, what is special about them, amazing moments of their lives and other little details. Trust me; these little details are ingredients that help you tell better stories using your clients’ portrait. So, before you set the stage, get talking with your clients’, but make sure they are comfortable, this is the only way they will be open to sharing their life’s detail with you.

Series are perfect

If you’re new into portrait photography, chances are you’ll be thinking a single shot will help you tell an amazing story about your clients. But far from it. A single shot will not suffice, in fact, a single shot will only tell a half-truth. So, what’s your best bet? I’m glad you asked. A series of the picture is just perfect for the kind of captivating story you’re looking to tell. Each picture in a series helps people visually process each image as a whole. Also, have it at the back of your mind that the first and last image (goal images) in a series are the most important, hence, make sure you take out time to select a strong opening shot.
