Who’s the right creative corporate event photographer?  If that question was coming from a fellow photographer, it would be much easier to give him a satisfying answer. Simply because we both understand the effect of certain actions or inactions on the final works. But the question doesn’t usually come from a photographer but from a client or potential client.

 

So what if a client asked the question? What’s the difference? Well, under the ideal situation, the answer should be the same as you would give a fellow photographer. But in reality, it’s not that simple. Not difficult, but tricky.

Sometimes, a blunt answer is exactly the right answer for a tricky question. So I will offer one, but only after shedding more light on the scope of a creative corporate event photographer and why an expert is needed for it.

Corporate event photography is generally referred to as a type of photography by commercial companies for any business-related purpose.

The common answers to the question of who’s the right corporate event photographer sound something like such and such persons must be talented, professional, unobtrusive, creative, presentable, timely delivery… And all the other qualities you would expect anybody good at anything to have. The truth is, just about any photographer, with an expensive camera and modern equipment can claim to have all of this and more. But what exactly any Tom, Dick, and Harry can’t claim to have?

Is it to capture interesting shots of employees and facilities – for internal reports or newsletters? Or, is it photography works for branding, public relations, recruiting, marketing, and advertising? Every single one of them is different. To get the best effect, a different approach must be taken to achieve the desired results.

In essence. What a restaurant wants to be captured is different from what a Real Estate agent would want. Likewise, a business/ trade convention would aim for a different perspective compared to say health or beauty photography. And how would I know this difference? Experience. It comes with experience and a solid track record. I mean, I have been in the business of photography for the best part of 20 years, I should know.

The blunt answer? The right corporate photographer should be someone who understands the scope: term it your niche, your business, and your expectations, and deliver PRECISELY the corporate event photography that represents your vision.
