Las Vegas Event Photographer – Camera Settings

Working as a professional photographer requires you to know how to use your camera and camera gear to their best extent; this includes knowing what camera settings are the best choice when you’re out and about as a Las Vegas portrait photographer. The following are some essential tips to keep in mind when you’re choosing camera settings for any sort of Las Vegas photographer event, whether it’s a wedding, corporate event, party, or something else entirely.

Set your image quality to RAW

With very, very few exceptions, it’s always best as a Las Vegas portrait photographer to set the image quality in your camera to “RAW.” RAW files look much better than JPEG or other exporting options and they give you the best quality to work with, whether you’re processing the files afterward or simply sending the RAW files to the client. The few downsides to using RAW as a Las Vegas photographer is that the files take longer to export due to the larger file size, but for most events, this won’t be an issue.

Know the right white balance to use

For the most part, the best white balance setting on your camera is the auto setting. Yes, it seems like it’s too good to be true—after all, what Las Vegas portrait photographer simply uses “auto”? But the fact of the matter is that the auto settings are based on your camera’s sensors and your camera knows what it’s doing with white balance. Messing with your white balance can also take precious time away as a photographer during a photo shoot, so it’s best to leave it alone.

Don’t be afraid to use an aperture priority mode

There’s something of a bias in the Las Vegas portrait photographer world against using aperture priority mode for your camera, but it’s a great tool if you’re not completely familiar with the manual settings on your camera and you need your camera to do the work for you. In many cases, a Las Vegas photographer simply won’t have the time to mess around with manual settings, and send the aperture priority mode still produces excellent results in just about any situation, it can be used without fear of reducing your photo quality. Of course, if you are a Las Vegas portrait photographer with enough experience and knowledge of the manual settings to use them without losing time, feel free to do that as well!

Final thoughts

The key to using your camera settings successfully as a Las Vegas portrait photographer is to prepare yourself before every event. You don’t want to want your—and your client’s—precious time as you try to figure out which settings are the right ones. A little prep work and research on camera settings before you head out is the best way to get the best Las Vegas photographer results you need.
